My buddy Vickie Howell has just launched a new bi-monthly column over at PBS Parents!  It's called Craft Apparent, and this month, it features four completely awesome baby Halloween costume ideas that go easy on your budget as well as your time and skill level!

Baby Quinn was asked to be a model for one of the costumes... Baby Strong Man...

 

I love that all the costumes featured in the column start with a plain white onesie.  This one was dyed with coffee for the 'skin tone' effect!  A little embroidery floss for the fake chest hair, some glitter cheetah fabric, felt, yarn, and fabric paint for the barbell and bing-bang-boom - baby strong man!

Getting a mustache on Mr. Man turned out to be a bit of a challenge, but we worked as a team and figured it out!

Wow - it's already Friday and I've got Halloween on the brain! 

Let's get to the finding!

If there's one thing in this world that my little man cub enjoys, it's a finger puppet.  He squeals in delight and likes to tell them secrets and give them hugs - which is just about the cutest thing I've ever seen... ever...

This little skelly puppet is so perfect for some Halloween baby conversations and spooky baby hugs!

I love me some checkers and mummies and vampires makes the game even more fun!  I wonder who will win this age ol' battle - mummies or vamps?

Why, yes, I am reading Twilight right now... oh, you're right, we did just finish up watching True Blood... hooray for vampires!

There's a soft spot in my heart for multi-finger rings, and I love this particular one with it's oh so awesome vamp teeth!

The Cobbler's Kid actually has cute shoes...

The uncontrolable urge to have cute shoes for my little man began before he was even born.  Our good friends, Roger and Eliza sent these as a prezzie for the baby all the way from California...

Did you just die from cute overload... yeah, me too...

Once these little beauties arrived in our mail box, I was determined to find a way to custom make some cute baby shoes for my Mr. Man...

First things first - what sort of fabric should I use to make the shoes? 

How's about some fake snakeskin...

Pretty darn cool... I used felt as the lining...

How's about some cool muscle car fabric...

Oh, yes, super duper cool! Felt was used as the lining here as well, which, by the way, makes for some really warm and snuggly shoes - perfect in the winter, not so great in the sweltering 90 degree "fall" weather...

...and finally, had to make some out of some Amy Butler fabric scraps I had in my stash...

So, how did the baby like his new kicks?  Was it kind of like putting a neck tie on a cat?  Well, kind of - I didn't have to bribe him with tartar control chicken flavored cat treats, but he was not fond of the snakeskin shoes at first...

He seemed to like his muscle car shoes, but we ended up taking them off that day - it was just too darn hot outside...

Check out Dad's matching tie shirt - made for us by our buddy Mandy Joe...

I think Q appreciated the Amy Butler shoes the most - I lined them with plain ol' broadcloth, so, they were much lighter than the others... I also made him a matching bib-dana...

All in all, the pattern is totally easy - once you get the hang of it, you can make an entire pair of baby shoes in under an hour - seriously! 

Up next - Halloween inspired baby shoes, but of course!

Hello Friends!

How have you been?  I'm well, working on some little things here and there, completely ignoring my blog, etc. - you know...

So, turns out babies are quite drooly creatures.  Especially my guy Quinn and his friend Clover.  Clover's mommy and I decided that we should make the amazingly cute bib-danas found in Baby Stuff for our little ones...

...but here's the twist... regular cotton material didn't seem very... absorbent... so, we got to thinking... what is super duper absorbent, but still thin and soft - thereby being comfortable to wear but also do it's job properly... only one product seemed to fit this description...

 

Oh yes, my friends - you are seeing that right - it's Shamwow!

The Shamwow deluxe as-seen-on-TV jumbo pack comes with two different types of Shamwow - regular and super - also known as purple and yellow.

It's so good to be back blogging my most favorite Etsy finds! 

Today's edition of Etsy Finds Friday has a little bit of a theme... you see, after giving birth 7 weeks ago, I'm left with a closet half full of clothes that are too small, and the other half is maternity wear... neither option is working for me lately, so, what's a girl to do?

I love picnics and skirts! This skirt looks especially forgiving of my 'in between baby and normal body' - nice and roomy around the thigh area, good length, I like the little tie around the smallest part of the waist - Stacy and Clinton would be proud!

Well hello!

Wow!  I can't believe it's been 7 weeks since Mr. Baby Pants showed up in our lives, and also since I've blogged here at LuckyKitty!

So much life has happened in the past 7 weeks, but sadly, not so much crafty goodness... you see, we turned my sewing room into the baby's nursery a few months ago - which was fine with me - baby needs his own room. 

Turns out, however, that Mommy needs her own space too - that without some place to set up ye ol' sewing machine, I'm just not the same person... which was unacceptable.

So, over the weekend, the Hubs and I decided that we would temporarily sacrifice the dining area of our kitchen for me to have a little space for being creative...

It's not even close to how I want it to look, but it's something and I already feel better!

So, my first project was something small and easy - just to get my feet wet. 

I've been totally and completely in love with applique lately.  More specifically, I'm totally crushing on Wonder Under double sided interfacing - I'm not sure how I ever lived my life without it - kinda like my cell phone and the internet - what did we do before?

I decided that Quinn needed a cute custom onesie to wear to our monthly Mommy Club meet up...

Pretty simple - it's an American Apparel onesie, I drew the monster design on paper, traced it onto the Wonder Under - cut out and ironed all the pieces, then just did a tiny zig zag stitch around everything to hold it in place. 

Bing bang boom - I've managed to make something!  Yay!  Whew! 

Man, those seven weeks were so much more difficult without a creative outlet... but this guy makes it all okay...

I am so excited that he chose me to be his mommy - that makes me one lucky lady!

Etsy Finds Friday! Crazed Pregnant Lady Edition...

Friday Friday!  It's gonna be 95 degrees today, I'm 4 days away from my due date (which apparently is some sort of approximation), and I'm fresh out of ways to prepare for the little one, leaving me with not much to do but sit and wait... not a fan...

So, today's edition of Etsy Finds Friday is all about things for the baby that I'm pretty sure has decided to never ever come out of my body... le sigh...

These are so cute!  I love the colors and patterns used, the fact that the sharp corners have been sanded down, and they come in a cute carry bag - so you won't lose some or all of them!

Next up, check out Minou Kitty by Amanda Jean...

Where to begin on how awesome this kitty is... let's see... love the way she did his eyes and lids, love the colors used, love the way she used the pattern of the fabric as the face and body of the kitty... all around love this little guy!  I think my little guy would love it too...

...and finally today, check out Organic Linen Baby Pants by Green Thread Shop...

It dawned on me a few weeks ago, in preparation for the event that somebody (the baby) has decided is never going to happen (the birthing), that for all the cute onesies and little shirts I have collected, I had not one pair of baby pants. 

The Hubs came home from work one day to me being quite distraught that my child had no pants.  Yes, he's a baby, he doesn't really need pants... but what if he wants to wear a pair or two occasionally?  Well, these baby pants certainly fit the bill! I love the birdies printed on them, the fact that they're nice and light - made of linen - perfect for 100+ degree summers in Austin!

Happy Friday - maybe soon Mr. Baby Pants will change his mind and come on out...

Applique!

It dawned on me a few weeks ago that my hopefully-soon-to-be-born child might need a little sun hat considering it's already in the 90s here in the ATX.

So, I popped over to Target to see what my options are...

Turns out, if you're a boy baby, you get really plain, ordinary hat choices - navy or khaki... no designs... no patterns... nada.

If you're a girl baby, you have at least 10 to 12 different super cute patterns, colors, sizes, shapes - it's like an all-you-can-eat buffet of baby hats all in various shades of pink with flowers, butterfiles, ladybugs, etc.

I went with both the navy and the khaki - one is toddler size, one is infant size.

My nephew, Logan (and his parents) will be visiting us later in the month from North Dakota - where I'm pretty sure it's still snowing and they don't ever see the sun... so, thought he could use a sun hat for Texas as well.

I left the Target with two plain boy hats and an idea... what if I were to try doing an applique on them... hmmm...

Thanks to a little searching on ye ol' interweb, I figured out what kind of interfacing I would need (Wonder Under) and that it's super duper cheap... yay!

Next up was figuring out what type of designs I wanted to do on the hats.

For my first try, I thought I would keep it simple and just do the babies initials - in similiar fabrics...

Check it out... I think they turned out pretty darn cute! The Wonder Under was sooooo easy to use - I'm already thinking about shapes and patterns for some onesies...

Friday Friday!  Still preggers, but perhaps not for too much longer?  Little guy's horoscope said that "people will be looking at him this weekend"... so, here's hoping for that!

I love the colors used here, the beautiful buttons, patterns - the whole shebang - it's so awesome!  This would look so great in my living room... the colors would work perfectly!

There are so many great ABC posters in the world, but I especially like this one because it's all about birds!  We have tons of birds that hang out in our backyard and I'm sure once the little guy is older, he'll be very curious about them!

...and finally today, check out Large Multi Colored Alphabet Set by MiChiMa...

 

These are so great!  I love the colors used, the fact that they're soft and large, and they look like something babies might want to chew on while learning their letters!  Win win!
